Civil Defense·2025—·ongoing

CDAT & 港湖民防團

Outside of my day job, most of my time goes into building and growing civil defense capacity — organizing the group itself, working on related initiatives, and applying my software and AI background to civil-defense-relevant technology.

Why

That afternoon, I asked myself one question.

On the afternoon of July 26, 2025, I sat in recall campaign headquarters watching every polling station's results tick in, one by one, across Neihu/Ganghu.

I realized we hadn't just lost a recall vote. We'd tried to hold back China's encroachment through democratic means, and on that front — inside the system — we lost.

I don't think we lost the war. I just finally understood that the fight against China never actually ends — we just tend to forget that.

That afternoon I asked myself: if even political participation can't hold the line, what else can we do?

The answer wasn't new — it was something I'd always known and never faced head-on: civil defense. Stockpiling supplies, building mental resilience, learning real skills, staying physically capable — making it clear that aggression has a cost.

Around 5pm, once the result was effectively decided, I told a few of the teammates who'd fought hardest in the recall campaign: the recall is over, but the resistance against China isn't. I'm going to build civil defense — whether anyone joins or not, I'm doing this.

I didn't expect much of a response. It turned out a lot of people who felt anxious about the recall result, but didn't know what else they could do, had been waiting for exactly this — somewhere to keep going together.

CDAT (Civil Defense Advancement Taiwan) and 港湖民防團 formally started on 2025/07/26.

How

No template, no shortcuts.

  • Started with no institutional backing and no template to copy.
  • Built a structured curriculum across multiple tracks: TECC/BLS emergency medical care, radio and mesh communications (including TAK/ATAK), drone operations, and home hardening/evacuation planning.
  • Beyond the weekly regular sessions, we're now planning recurring field exercises too, so this stays an active group rather than a one-off class.
What

Building the curriculum, and making it official.

  • A weekly self-run session — basic but essential foundational training — running steadily and continuously.
  • We also run advanced courses internally for members who want to go further.
  • 港湖民防團 has formally filed for nonprofit corporate registration with Taiwan's Ministry of the Interior, under the name Taiwan Civil Defense Advocacy Association (台灣全民防衛推廣協會).
